if your distro doesn't have metamail's mimencode, try mpack: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1687668
mimencoded data needs prefixed by these two lines, followed by a blank line, then munpack can handle it:
Content-Type: application/octet-stream
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
