I deleted my last entry. It contained embarrassing grfx, sry.

But, so, here’s me. I’ll break it down:
PERSONAL LIFE: I’m doing very all right, despite having to pick up two new students. My local Giant Eagle has been consistently (amazingly!!) stocking all four of the Betty Crocker gluten-free bake mixes. I made a goddamn cake today, motherfucker ( Read more... )

mr. uskglass, web projects, i have no tags that cover this, whining, imaginary men

James Bond is kind of a sleazy douche on top of being boring, so there's that (though actually I've only seen the movies). And wasn't Holden underage?

Clark Gable is so gross looking.

I would totally watch a TV adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. I admit when I read the book my impression was kind of WHAAAAT?? but in a good way. I am a visual person so maybe it will help me. Or I could just...reread it, it's been long enough and I am a few years older now (this makes a difference).

Hi!

HI ALSO!

You know that Deep Thought that goes, "I think my favorite monster movie is Gone With the Wind, because it has that ear monster and that big-dress monster”? That’s pretty much how I feel.

Well, “WHAAAAT??” is better than “UGH!!!” so there’s that. Being older does help; I read it first at 24, then at 26, then at 28, then last year, and every time I got a little something more out of it. If you have the time, it’s a really great book.

I love your icon :]

That page is pretty amusing, I bookmarked it.

When I read it I was fourteen, and I am eighteen now, so yeah, I'd probably get a lot more out of it if I reread it now, haha. That's quite a difference in maturity there, though not as much as I'd like. And, well, I've got absolutely nothing to do for the next month...

Thank you, my friend made it! Yuri Lowell (no lie, that is his name) is pretty neat, so it's a shame the story he's in is so bad. I like yours too.

I think we live in the same overall geographical area. Like, I remember reading a post you made once about the “one for the thumb” in the stupid Steelers song. I was going to answer, but somebody beat me to it.

Congratulations on getting your license!

10.) Heathcliff - Gay men is one thing; psychopaths are something different. Heathcliff was a really dull guy, once you got over his homicidal cruelty. People who are always predictable are never sexy.

But nooooo, don't you want a partner whose entire identity is built primarily around their obsession with you? (Also: appropriate.)

That comic is howlingly hilarious. I am saving it for later and repeated consideration.

I’ve been finding fictional romance offensive since I was, like, 12.

Hmm, I seem to remember that YOU used to have a whole domain-like arrangement. Then you were going to have a hosted art site? Now all I see are links to Facebook (which no, sorry) and Shelfari (maybe). SO RIGHT BACK ATCHA THERE.

Speaking of Anne of the Smallest Canadian Province, that's why I never got past the first two books in the series (which I did love): I was quick to jump ship when any of the book series I read started becoming boy-centric. The same thing happened with the Betsy & Tacy books. (Which was very similar to the Anne series, except it took place in Minnesota, so they talked more about cheese and German people.)

Oh golly. I am genuinely having a hard time coming up with something I don't hate, as far as the web site goes. Or at least, something I don't hate enough to re-learn everything I used to know about web design for.

Maybe I'll just make a site for my haiku. I came up with one about peanut butter today.

LOL FACEBOOK.

I went on “hiatus” myself for over a year, during which time I took the opportunity to forget absolutely everything I ever knew about HTML. I also didn’t remember anything about writing PHP, which is why all my sites are now CSS-driven and very straightforward, flat code. It was painful. I actually sat down at my computer, opened my text editor and thought, “Well, I know that when you make an HTML document, there are words, and there is code. And I know the words go in the code. If only I could remember HOW!” So I’m feeling you. If I can help in any way, let me know ( ... )

Oh, haha, no thank you, that looks awful. But very nice of you to offer. ♥

Do you have a great anime rec? I’ve been reading your reviews, but I didn’t see anything that looked Mononoke-great. (I think Mononoke is great.)

I've been starting to feel some of the same about LJ since I got a DW account in April. Briefly, it's awesome. If you'd like an invite, let me know.

JS & Mr. N on my TV!?!?!? YAY.

Honestly, though, I think I have to disagree with you w/r/t Austen and novels--I think our ideas about what a novel is and does have shifted radically in the time elapsed since she was writing, so much so that finding a new term for one or the other end of the historical spectrum might not be a bad idea.

Hmm. Yeah, did they somehow not get the part where Macbeth might be impotent? I would, however, make an exception for James Bond as played by Daniel Craig. Not, however, that that would be any kind of healthy relationship.

The moment where Dr. Carlisle Cullen bites human!Edward's neck was the only scene with sexual energy in the entire Twilight movie, I can't deny. But clearly Dr. Cullen has issues. And I'm glad I'm not the only one disturbed by how quickly Anne's writing career is consigned to oblivion ( ... )

Hey, yes, sure! Thank you!

YAAAAAAAY, RIGHT? STEPHEN BLACK AND THE GENTLEMEN WOULD BE ONLY A THIN DIGITAL MEMBRANE AWAY. OH WAIT, THAT’S KIND OF SCARY LET’S THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE: CHILDERMASS! SHIRTLESS! HE’S JUST BEEN SHOT BUT WHY QUIBBLE?

Honestly, though, I think I have to disagree with you w/r/t Austen and novels
Oh, see, I hate Austen and want to eat all her books to stop people reading them and talking about them all the time and making movies out of them and thinking that’s what love looks like, even in its imaginary form. I do not judge you for liking Austen novels, though. Of course. I know tons of people of both genders who adore Austen, and nearly all of them are far smarter than I am (which is maybe something to think about). Also I like many things that would, by any reasonable standard, be considered far more retarded than Regency fiction. So, no judging. Just bitching ( ... )

Re: Devon ATerafin, I don't know if he's even on the internet. The fandom presence for Michelle West is miniscule. I've been thinking of writing up a long fannish guide to the books, though, since the next one comes out in February (yay!). But, yeah, he's pretty hot. And awesome.

I like Austen a lot, but I think it says some possibly disturbing things about our society that her Regency novels are held up as mirrors to romance in ours. And are reworked into such things as Bridget Jones with most of the underlying structures and themes intact. Not exactly comforting.

HE’S JUST BEEN SHOT BUT WHY QUIBBLE?

One of the things one has to take into account w/r/t Bond, too.

Repressed homosexuality is tragic for real people, but fairly hilarious as it relates to thousands of oblivious screaming obsessed fangirls.

Too right. That said, I think Twilight is worth a download to mock relentlessly. We had to head for the airport before we finished, but I'm sadly certain that there will not be any more repressed slash between Edward and his ( ... )

OMG DELETED AND REPOSED x2, because LiveJournal REALLY sucks. And I can’t write code?

Well, I Googled "Devon ATerafin” and on my third click got an illegal PDF of one of West’s novels :[

So, I don’t know if that counts as ‘fandom presence,’ but he’s there all right.

And are reworked into such things as Bridget Jones with most of the underlying structures and themes intact.Yes, right. It’s hard for me to be objective for that reason. There are of course tons of sane people who love books I don’t like for sane reasons, which is one thing, and then, like, all these people who try to choreograph their lives so that they can reenact the terrible inane romances they see in movies and in novels in realtime. Like, the thing that made me livid about Sex and the City (besides the misogynistic trivializing of all types of female effort, down to the stupid-looking clothes which were clearly intended to be jokes) ( ... )
