the knights who say に!

I downloaded a whole bunch of "licensed" manga, so now I feel a little better. I also made hiragana flash cards, which I've been using all day. They look a little odd, but I was able to correctly identify "ni" in the Unicode chart (I think), so hopefully they'll eventually work for me. Maybe. Also, oddly enough, it seems like crummy American ( Read more... )

Ah yes, the Joel Schumacher Batman -- the one where Batgirl zips on a beyond-skin-tight/painted on leather catsuit batsuit that her uncle Alfred made for her. 10 years later, and my brain is still scarred from that one.

Uskglass totally is the sultry huntsman (aukSEN or no aukSEN). I bet Clarke discovered there was a typo in the book and told Prebble that when he reads it, it should be "sultry". Actually, I bet it was supposed to be the "hot sultry huntsman, clad in tight leather trousers, sweat running down his neck in the unseasonably heavy afternoon heat" but the recording was running overlong so they had to trim some of the description. And we are all the poorer for it.

And we are all the poorer for it.
We certainly are. It's just. The passage where I heard it, kept talking about abuse being heaped on the guy, and then "sultry," so yes. Many thoughts of. Abuse.

Anyway, I have kind of a hard time understanding any kind of accent. The least understandable accent I have ever heard in my life is the one belonging to Hugh Laurie in Jeeves & Wooster. I watched it for two years, and never understood one word. Sultry horsemen are clearly the least of my problems.

I can't even imagine what Schumacher would do to Sandman. Actually, I can. Which is worse.

They made a movie full of ]: already! I think it was called The Matrix. Or maybe that was ":O..."

Speaking of which, Keanu would probably play the broom. ]:

Though I expect a Sandman movie would be really very odd. The only thing I really remember about that series, actually, is this chick, and she lived in an apartment complex, and the manager person worked as a drag queen, or something. That would probably make a pretty weird movie, so...I got nothin'.

Hey, what are you talking about, The Matrix was full of Whoa.

Now that you mention it, I think Keanu would make an excellent Dream. He's beautiful, lovely hair, not very bright, default setting ]:

I don't remember anything about any parts of Sandman except the part where Dream and Death are staring at pigeons, and then the part where I performed a sublime act of metatextual acrobatics and actually went to sleep while reading it. I also remember there was a retelling of A Midsummer Night's Dream in one of the volumes, which actually looked quite a bit better than the rest of the comic, but I swear to god, every time I tried to read it, time would stand still. It took me about three months to make it through the chapter. Which was like twelve pages long. Also, I think the title is a pun ( ... )

Ohh, I remember the Midsummer Night's Dream thing. It involved people that looked like trees, or something. Uh.

The bibliography would be excellent, thanks! I really appreciate information like that because my local library is woefully understocked on this kind of topic, plus I have nowhere to start (once I tried to get information on Japanese mythology, and the only book I could get my hands on immediately was only 100 pages long, and then I forgot to read it). Only if it's not too much trouble finding your paper, of course. Papers are weird like that, I can find something I wrote in second grade, but not something I wrote last week.

Thanks again!

Aw, Watanuki~ ♥

Yes, it did, in fact, involve fairies, many of whom resembled trees. Except Titania, who resembled Catherine Zeta Jones' evil twin. And Oberon, who looked like the baby Legolas had with the Pan's Labyrinth faun. Wearing a red cast iron Victorian-style cookstove as armor.

I haven't located the old paper yet, but then again I've had the flu for a week and haven't been looking. I'm feeling better (mostly) now, though, so I'll start searching for it sometime this week.

It's no problem. I'm sure I have it, I just have to find it.

ZOMG ♥ ♥ ♥!! Haven't talked to you in forever! ♥

...Okay, what the fuck is that.

Seriously, because. What the fuck is that?

The hair, okay, the sneakers, okay, the red mandarin pajamas, I am having a hard time picturing even Dream being colossally lame enough to wear. So. What the fuck?

MAN I SUCK AND BLOW ABOUT KEEPING IN TOUCH

Uhhh Robert Smith is like some sort of ideal dude in Gaiman's POV, which is in itself part of the problem, not the solution. NOTE THE HAIR. NOTE DREAM'S HAIR. Note the dark death sitting-on-the-floor rock music. Note Dream being homies with Death and also his feelings of general despondency.

Come to think if they go on to screw over th characters of Death and Delirium in this movie, I will be highly upset. HIGHLY UPSET

Nope! I was saving some posts from my old WordPress blog to LJ, and I forgot to backdate one of them, so it got posted as though it was a current entry. For about eleven minutes. I am scared of you.

Also, I've had the flu, and today is the first day in a week in which my temperature was less than 100° upon waking up. Not that I want you to feel sorry for me, or anything [← lying]. I think I probably owe you an e-mail, don't I?

Also, I vote for "noki.com." Or, failing that "h0tgrrlz4u.org."

Clearly I need to be more careful with the backdating function.

With great backdating function comes great responsibility. Or something.

Super-sorry for the late late late reply!

Joel Schumacher? Ow my fangirl.
I think that basically sums it up.

I am generally in favor of films which include footage of attractive semi-nude men, especially attractive semi-nude men playing elaborately-designed fanservicey characters. I kind of have a problem with that particular plot point in Sandman, but as long as Dream is attractive and nude, I'm willing to overlook it.

Yew do not loff ze 'orrible aukSEN? She iz ze bes par' ov ze quaritaire! Actually, you can't tell he talks like that from the text, but I was so happy with that actor's interpretation that I hear it in my head now every time I read that passage in the book. Or walk past the bookshelf where it's sitting.

"He," in this case, is the Raven King.

The book of magic pants is Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, my favoritest novel ever. It's got the most brilliant plot imaginable, some of the best prose ever, and there's even fangirl! Like half of the characters are hot guys with excellent hair! Yay ( ... )

Very, very magical trousers. Or, as he might say, "madgickael trowzaires [!!]". The exclamation points are generally implied, when you are speaking Norman French, I think.

THAT WAS MORE OR LESS MY REACTION!!!!!

[Also, and sorry, but the sultry huntsman story is from The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories, which is a newer Clarke fiction collection that's not out in paperback yet, but should be at the library.]

Also, very sorry for an again rudely late reply. I owe you one. I don't know what, but if you can think of it, I'll be happy to oblige.
