...I have no possible explanation for Gankutsuou needing six (or possibly nine) eyeballs. I mean. He isn't all that talented at using just the two normal ones. How does driving one's enemies insane help assuage one's violent fury? Insanity is guiltless. He's letting them off the hook. He should've read the book. It makes much more sense.
Also, I did not make all that much scanlation progress over the weekend, sorry, because I was making desktop wallpaper. (I forgot to take the translation with me, oops. IT'S YOUR FAULT FOR BEING SO FUNNY AND MAKING ME RUN OUT OF THE HOUSE UNPREPARED.)
The reason why the animators gave Gankutsuou nine eyeballs is because they needed him to resemble the aliens of Sidahntha, which was one of the requests made by the said aliens (who were at the time holding Mahiro Maeda hostage).
Well, of course! That makes complete sense! Seriously, why couldn't you have told me before?
...No, seriously, it makes complete sense. Why didn't someone just say so? It's obvious that Gankutsuou is the work of extraterrestrials, long fed up with the prejudices and condescensions of the American media industry. ET, har. This explains everything. I feel free now.
Wallace Stevens is my favorite poet, like ever. LYK EVR, SRSLY.
The first image is from an anime called Gankutsuou, which is a slavish adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo intermingled with the contents of several of Dumas' psychic visions produced by LSD usage. No, honestly, I don't think Dumas could come up with anything that stupid even if he dropped a Dumpster full of acid. Gankutsuou is possibly my favorite anime ever, despite its WTF?! ending, and it's been licensed, so check the CW this fall for its eviscerated corpse. [ *CRY* ]
