Thanks! Carry on is essentially all clothes and books. I plan on reading at least a good chunk of one of the Dominant Ideas books. You can have a carry on as long as you aren't leaving from the UK. See here. I'm really really glad I'm not flying out of there, because that would suck. You can bring one clear plastic bag with like...a wallet. It's sort of insane.
