I've always liked the M1A - Springfield Armory's civilian model of the M14 - but it's always been way WAY out of my budget. Luckily, there are a number of bolt & lever action rifles in my price range that fire powerful rifle rounds, are as accurate or more-so, and are time-tested to be fairly dependable with a little maintenance (Mosin Nagants, Mausers, K31, Marlin 336s, Lee-Enfields, CZ 550s etc.). With some practice, I'm not to shabby with quickly and repeatedly working a bolt action with fair accuracy. And, if the higher rate of fire of a semi-auto action were necessary, the 7.62x39mm in an SKS or AK/Saiga aren't too shabby either.

I was surprised to find that the Remington 700 .308 heavy barrel isn't nearly as expensive as I thought it was... After checking out the cost of a new stock, a decent bipod and some good optics, it's a lot less than the Tac-Ops Bravo 51 but should perform respectably in comparison.

Though, realistically, I can't see myself ever spending that much money, no matter how cool it would be. I'm the type who would happily settle for a CZ-550 for a big bore centerfire rifle, modest optics, and a stick or sandbag. I'm definitely comfortable with the Mauser action, and the price tag is more in my neighborhood. Considering most of my firearms have been beat up military and police surplus, I'm not worried about aesthetics or name brand appeal.
