Work rant. Only interesting to geeks.

I’m working at a client site. Last week I had to ask the person who runs their testing team whether they test a particular feature before releasing their software.

The staffperson figured the best way to find out would be to do a text search on the files they use for testing. Nothing could be simpler, right?

See, those files had spaces in their names, which causes unix to gag unless you know how to deal with them. Our heroine didn’t.

Tomorrow, you can tell your heroine that there's no need to

find /path | grep foo

when she can

find /path -exec grep foo {} \;

:) This is as someone who DOES use windows search when it's easier. (or microsoft excel instead of "cut" and "paste")

There's also a difference between agnostic and religious but respectful and willing to come along for a ride every now and then. I think I'm the latter......I use Windows mostly for logging into unix boxes to do work. It's handy to have both so I can use the best tool for the job.
