having been purchased by a company in Las Vegas that doesn’t think
particularly much of Massachusetts’ Revolutionary War history.

An Argentinian friend asked why a lot of crazy stuff seems to happen in the US. My response was "Some people feel they deserve a better life and react by feeling angry about it."
As for heroism being love? Absolutely. Sometimes in the struggle to break down "machismo" as the only way a man can show his feelings, we forget that being macho *is* a way of showing feelings. I was very touched by some very little things that Tony did (like locking the door to the cellar and putting the chain on our front door) that he did specifically to protect me. It was definitely an act of love (and I acknowledged it), and I think we do need to remember that heroism is love.
