If I was going to hire a senior executive for my company, and chose to disregard the candidates’ qualifications and make my decision based solely on their race, religion, or gender, that would not only be unwise, but illegal.

Given a choice between two qualified candidates with acceptable positions on the major issues, I'll vote for the woman every time. I'm open to revisiting that when there 50 women in the Senate. Right now, there are 17. We're not even halfway there yet.

In the specific case of Martha Coakley, it was important to me that she was the only candidate who came out and took a strong stand on the Stupak Amendment. The other candidates were good too, but there are very few issues that get me to email my legislators faster than a woman's right to choose.
