Today a friend of mine started a contest to guess how much her bucket of coinage was worth. She gave two hints: the bucket weighed 50 pounds, and it was nearly all quarters and dimes.

A little research at the US Mint provided the following interesting surprise. Check out the last column:

I use dollar coins fairly often, actually. I want to see paper dollars discontinued, so I am doing my small bit to help the process.

I didn't win. In fact, I was $29.13 under, mostly because there were 41 dollar coins in the bucket, which threw my estimates off. Despite my one outlier friend, rational people don't use dollar coins. That's absurd!
