Regarding Cable

Mar 28, 2007 21:37

When we moved, we decided to cancel our cable TV. Honestly, I didn't use it too much. I can't stand watching regular shows coz there are too many commercials. I'd rather wait and watch my TV on DVD. There are only a couple of shows I like anyway ( Read more... )

You've been keeping an eye on the CRTC stuff re: digital signal switchover plans?

Well, I don't expect analog to hold out forever. It's old technology and there's little or no money to be made from it. :D

However, I expect that for the next decade or so at the least CBC will be available off-air in the bigger cities. There are still a lot of seniors and people on fixed incomes who can't afford to upgrade their TVs or get cable.

We haven't had cable since I moved up here. We just haven't seen the need. We have bunny ears, so we can get the basics: CBC, CTV and Global.

My biggest problem from this actually comes from work, when people say, "So, did you see [major hit show] last night?" and I say, "No, I don't watch TV/we don't have cable." The reaction is usually shock or concern that we're so deprived. *eyeroll*

Yeah, I get that too. One of the most common topics at lunch at work is what happened on such-and-such a show the night before. Soooo boring!

I feel like I've been hibernating lately. Now that spring has sprung, we'll see how motivated I get.

Very, very awesome and good on ya :3
I'd cancel cable tv in a heartbeat, if I didn't live alone. Sometimes I just need the background noise to make me feel less anxious :\ Hrrrmmrf.
All I watch is Animal Planet and Discovery though! Kek.

And I highly, highly envy you if it was 'easy' to catch a Hockey game :<
Obviously, in Georgia, ummmmmm no one really cares for hockey.
They don't even air all the Thrashers games .__.

*whimper*

And the Sabres are as you know, doing pretty awesome?! And I barely ever get to watch it? *paws at telly screen* ;__; Brainless puck chasings my ass, I know almost every Sabres game is thrilling to watch and the Senators have rocked quite hard lately too!! Man! And apparently we have a hardcore rivalry or something? :o Huh. Never knew.

I'm kinda sad we traded Novotny though, heh.
Always reminded me of someones...
Bao :3

Yeah, it's really nice that hockey's just so important in this town. :) Everyone talks about it, and there are so many games on TV. I saw that Sabres and Sens home-and-home series earlier this month, and it was amazing. I mean, it was awesome hockey, 24 goals in two games. Plus a goalie fight. Gotta love that Emery. XD

I love the Sens, but I think Buffalo is going to win the East. They just have so much talent and depth that I really like their chances. I was kinda surprised to hear they traded Novotny. But he'll do well for himself in Washington with more ice time. :)

we ditched cable last year too. irks me to no end when certain people start yammering on about OMG that funny geico commercial or the lastest OMG grey's anatomy shocker or something. i've only told them 758492057849230574825842978295 times we have no cable -hrmph-

i will admit to having Detroit channels though on my cable. As much as the news sucked and was depressing, it was kinda nice to hear about things back home.

I still kinda miss the Winnipeg news myself. I sometimes check the cbc site for that purpose. Maybe the Motown channels have web sites where you can download some clips?
