Er. Not a Christmas fic. *ducks* I swear, I should have one up tonight of those too, but I needed to write something out to clear my mind. So hm. Written to Pink's 'Love Song'. :D
Title: Love Song
Rating: G
Form: Oneshot
Words: 600 something - I dunno.
Pairings: YunJae
Genre: bittersweet?
Summary: Love isn't happiness, but sometimes it's enough.
Their song started when they were just 16. They had gone to school together, been sweethearts at their year ten formal.
They’d broken up just before prom, in a flood of angry words and harsh accusations. Jaejoong wouldn’t pick up any of his calls, and Yunho cursed out his name. They didn’t speak again for the rest of year.
Second year university brought them together again at a chance meeting at a party. Too much drink and too long apart brought a maelstrom of feelings back, and hot kisses up against the pool shed brought the start of a second attempt at love.
More cautious, older and wiser, they tried harder. It was sweet when it was sweet. Jaejoong spent winter tucked under Yunho’s arm, spent it in a warm bed and warm embrace. Yunho spent spring under Jaejoong’s smile and laugher.
Sometimes Yunho looked at him and wondered if this man was the one he was meant to be with for the rest of his life. Jaejoong made him feel things no one else did, reach heights of emotion he didn’t know his heart could even find.
Sometimes Jaejoong looked back at him, and thought that the world lay in Yunho’s eyes. Wondered if he would drown in the way Yunho loved - so fervently and sure, and if there would be anyone else who could make him feel like Yunho did.
The hard times were hard though, the screaming and blows hard to overcome. There was as much pain as love and in the end, Jaejoong feared loosing himself in Yunho, feared how scattered the man made him, how violent their arguments were. He left before they could damage to each other that they couldn’t repair.
They were 28 when they met again, a dinner party this time. Jaejoong’s wide, startled eyes met his over the table, and Yunho felt himself lost again.
We can’t, Jaejoong said breathlessly as Yunho grabbed his arm, trying to make him stay. We can’t survive each other, he claimed. Jaejoong looked the same to Yunho now as he did at 20, as he did at 16. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfect for Yunho.
I love you, Jaejoong. I always have. He said suredly, knowing it was true. There’s no one else for me. I’m going to be loving you the rest of my life. Jaejoong’s eyes pooled, feeling himself falling all over again.
Yunho… Jaejoong squeezed his eyes shut, remembering the pure and unadulterated love, but also remembering the anguished pain.
I won’t let you go again. Yunho promised.
We’ll only hurt each other. Jaejoong said wetly, even as he let himself be pulled into the warm embrace that had lurked at the edge of his mind for years.
I’d rather live life with you, then live life without any scars. Yunho returned, hugging him tight and feeling the emotions rise in him again, the way they only did for the man in his arms.
Theirs wasn’t the happiest of love songs, but no matter how many times they moved apart, they found each other again. They made as much pain as love, but nobody else stirred them in they way the other did. Nobody else could show them the heights of passions, the depths of love. There was nobody they could feel in the same way. So no matter how hard it was, how much yelling, how much heartache there was… they shared it all together, and just tried to weather the storm.
Love wasn’t always happiness. But the love didn’t leave when they did, didn’t change when they did. And Yunho was right. The love stayed…
all the way through their lives.
