Entry #A-18: "Antivivisectionist"

Aug 26, 2009 12:45

I've come to the sobering realization that profanity is a coarse practice that has no practical effects except to make Kevin one look stupid, shock the weak-minded, and make everyone else roll their eyes.

It's probably not an art form I'd take pride in being adept at. Maybe I'll take up oil painting instead.

Ryuuzaki. You have a somewhat careless young actor friend. He as good as accused me of being a murderer, and knew about the notebook.

I thought it was fair that he should know where we stand.

If I know him, he warned you against harming me, as Kira would want to do. I'd like to return the favor by saying that if anything suspicious happens to this "careless young actor friend," I will immediately suspect you.

Really. You thought that was fair? How many other people are you planning to tell? Are they all as discreet as your friend?

Yes. I did. I suspect you of being Kira, after all, and a friend should know that I could very well die, if you are Kira and you possess the notebook. I noticed that a piece was torn out of the one Task Force acquired... it is possible that even a piece of the notebook could be used to kill, even though the Shinigami seemed to know nothing about it. The point is, you could be equipped to kill me, with only my name holding you back. Because you do not know my name. As far as I know, you never learn it.

I didn't know that he'd told you, until you informed me just now. That seems fairly discreet, to me.

To each their own. Being a bit more creative with normal words has more uses and no such limitations as swearing.

There's also the fact that swearing, like everything else, loses its effectiveness in excess.

Especially in times when it's overdone.

...Right. "Excess," like I said...

Well that's reassuring. That one time was more than enough for me.

((OOC: most of Kenta's responses will be offline for awhile, being the motherhen he is))

I have to admit, it's nice to know that someone is around... is everything all right, Kenta?

... nothing. Just worried. Which I know doesn't help anything, but.

Well, telling myself not to worry doesn't mean I'm going to stop anytime soon, does it?

Um... there's nothing wrong with being worried. To be honest, I'm worried.

Forgive me, but... were you talking to Light, earlier? He mentioned my "careless actor friend." You do not have to like him, but for the love of chocolate, don't make him an enemy...

Swearing does serve a psycgological purpose in some situations, Ryuuzaki-san. For example, it can reduce your body's reaction to a pain stimulus.

Well, don't meditation and deep breathing accomplish essentially the same thing?

On the other hand, it is difficult to meditate when you are, for example, being ran through with a sword.

Oh, I dunno. I think someone once said swearing's a compromise between fighting and running away. And when it's something you can't fight, like, well, little ghosty things, swearing is, at least, really fucking cathartic.
