I write mostly action and adventure, whether it be in science fiction, fantasy, or suspense settings. Why do I write it? Probably because I love the idea of adventures, whether they be in a dystopian world, a fantasy world, or this world right here. I love creating situations where ordinary people have to step up and face a challenge (or be dragged into it) and discover how resilient/strong/smart they really are through trial and error while facing a villain either internal or external that will test them to the extremes.

Adventure stories are always good to read. :) I love to do the same thing - toss characters into some sort of situation to see how they're going to cope with it. Plus I like to sometimes write from the POV of the villian, just to do something a little different.

Definitely agree on the villain's point of view. After all, to them, the protagonist is the villain. Always nice to see why.

*waves* I've had this open since you posted it to answer, but... life. Work has been crazy busy (we've got just over 30 days left in the "year" so the push is really on to finish everything up) and then ya know... life.

So what do I write? It might be easier to say what don't I write? Honestly I write whatever strikes my fancy. I've got a self-published novella When the Prince Didn't Come in Time that's a rewritten fairy tale (shameless plug). And I'm working with an illustrator on three children's books (they're written, the pictures just need to be finished.)

I've dabbled with soft science fiction, fantasy (my favorite), mysteries, erotica, and even a little romance. I tend to get my characters first and then develop a story around them. Or I go from a prompt or idea and move from there. I'm very active on an online writing site and I love to stretch my writing wings with prompts from the different contests on there.

I can't wait to tackle the prompts on my card! (Although it might have to wait until things calm down a little at

(waves) Great stuff to know! Will check out the story link and was wondering about the online writing site. Oh, and you never did say what you didn't write. Any aversions?

Thanks! I had fun reading yours too!

The writing site is Writing.com and is terrifically awesome. I've been a member almost 15 years (it'll be 15 years the end of next month). And I couldn't be happier. They have all levels of membership. I'm medievalgirl on there and there's plenty of stuff I wrote (and others wrote) all over the site! Check it out!

And as for not writing... horror. And I've never tried suspense. I'm not a huge fan of writing straight romance although I've done it. Honestly that's pretty much it... I've not tried things, but I'd say horror and just straight suspense are probably the only things I don't write. Maybe military? I'm not confident enough to write a hardcore military novel.

I agree on horror and romance. I've written suspense - Halloween stories for friends - but I'm not into terrible things for the sake of being terrible. As for romance, heh, I'd rather leave things to the reader's imaginings. Writing.com sounds interesting. Will check that out, too. Thanks!

I just saw this. I write a lot of spec fic myself. I really enjoy writing urban fantasy. I'd love to write a mystery series some day as well.
