Feb Club: My Favorite ____

Feb 03, 2012 22:42

My only problem with this Feb Club is that it is making me slightly distracte-bunny from all the nifty new things to look at. There are worse fates, though!

For today - What's a favorite song or piece of music that you discovered in the past year? (Link if possible).

My rec: Well, I really do like Flobots' No Handlebars, but that was discussed ( Read more... )

Living under a pop-music rock like I do, it took me ages to realize that That Awesome Song That Showed Up In My Yoga Class was in fact Rolling in the Deep by Adele. So, yeah, it's gotten a ton of hype this year, but I think it's worth it, because wow, does she have an amazing voice.

Tom Waits released a new album last year. I love Tom Waits - IMHO he is the greatest living American songwriter.
Here are two of my favorites from the album:
Last Leaf on the Tree
Chicago

P!nk, "Raise Your Glass," whose video I had not seen till hunting down a link just now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjVNlG5cZyQ
Warning: the lyrics are borderline child-okay if not precisely what one wants little kids proclaiming unexamined/undiscussed on the playground (it's an anthem for freaks); the video's bit with the cow would be hard to explain, I think.

I started listening to Lyle Lovett when I was living in Austin, (including my favorite song of his If I Had a Boat) but I didn't discover this song, North Dakota, from his amazing album Joshua, Judges, Ruth until late last year.

For actual new music, I gotta say that I really did like Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" everyone's heard it though, and it has more than 10,000 covers, so here's a vid that cuts together 70-odd of them together.

I should really read the comments before posting. Since Becky picked Rolling in the Deep, I'll instead pick a song off my favorite album of last year, The Decemberist's The King is Dead tons of great tracks, including "Down by the River," "Rox in the Box," "June Hymm," basically the whole album really, but I've been listening a lot to This is Why We Fight
