If you really need the money, check into the buy back program at www.textbooksrus.com - they buy back more than just textbooks plus shipping to them is free. Most books I've sold back make between $1 -$5. It's been a great way to make a little extra cash when we've been short.
We have our books divided into personal, professional and reference sections. Personal books relate to individual pursuits and interests, professional texts are books and literature related to career, and our reference section has health, home, and family related texts. All sections follow genre then author, usually. I try to follow the suggestion of only keeping the texts I love, need and can't find on the web. Good Luck!
One thing I simply can't part with are my books. I have books literally in EVERY ROOM OF MY CONDO. Same as when I owned my house. Since I'm strapped for room, I've had to /make/ it. I built this simple, hard-wood (forget what type, but HARD/THICK) six-legged, six foot long footboard. I started stacking books on top of that, then on top of those...now I have a wallful of books. LOL. It's not as awful as you'd imagine. I'll snatch a book from the middle, and another might slide down (or not...usually, the hole remains from where I plucked the book

Ja. It makes me happy looking at my books :D However, it's a NIGHTMARE to keep them dusted (I have to do it once a week, or I start mentally enlarging dust mites in my head and can't sleep...lol). :D
To get more books in less vertical wall space, and to still be mobile, for every 6 foot bookcase I own, I got a two foot book-case, and stacked it on top.
