I would sweep everything that was on the floor into a big pile. Then I'd let the kids at it and tell them they need to take out anything they want to keep and put into grocery bags what they didn't.

This usually worked well and it got the entire floor clean too. :)

Involving kids in any sort of clean up project is always a good idea.
