Hello! New member here.

I'd love to get some information from folks who raise chickens, or who have raised chickens in the past. Our goal is to raise chickens listed on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy's critical list. We have a bunch of different breeads- we have 3 rhode island reds (1 rooster, 2 hens), a jersey black giant (we think), a barred rock, and others we arent certain of- a friend gave them to us which is why we are not sure of what we have

Thank you so much! This is so incredibly helpful. We've just moved from NC to Missouri, so we're still getting used to the area here. We have 40 acres, so it should be plenty! I'm very lucky that our land came with a chicken house, but we've got to clean it out and try to spruce it up a bit. There are coyotes and bobcats around, from what I hear, not to mention quite a few hawks. We know we're going to have to fix the fencing around the coop, as it has fairly big holes and there's no 'ceiling' of fencing to protect from hawks.

I have noticed that the ground in there is very muddy, so I appreciate the heads up! We'll have to lay down straw or sow some decent grass in spring.
