The joy of politics

Feb 17, 2011 00:31

In the past, I've been pretty uncaring about politics. I've said here before that I lean conservative, but I haven't always paid a great deal of attention to what's going on in government (yes, shame on me), and while certain things upset me, nothing really gets me riled up. But with all of the mofo-ery going on in the state government right now, I ( Read more... )

I have several people from church whose statuses are all like "GO WALKER! BAD TEACHERS BAD!!!" And I'm like... uh... no. Of course, I lean left, so I'm hardly going to be cheering Walker on (though I have voted republican in the past -- so I'm not hardcore in either direction) -- but holy crap batman, the man is an idiot. I knew that when he got voted in and this entire thing has nailed it into the ground for me.

On the other hand -- I can kind of see where people are coming from being upset that Madison schools have been shut down 2 days in a row now. That's affecting the kids and I think that's a lot of peoples' concern there. I go back and forth on it. What Walker wants to do is WRONG WRONG WRONG. And of course teachers should have the right to protest. I just think it's unfortunate that the kids have to suffer because of it. I hope that makes sense.

I hate to stereotype people, but I really dislike the people who seem to agree with everything Republicans do solely because that is the "Christian party." It's like it makes them wholly unable to look at things critically, and that really frightens me - that even though a lot of us can see that Walker is a HUGE idiot, they're never going to see it. And even if this does blow up in everyone's faces, they'll probably try to find a way to justify it somehow ( ... )

I hear you. I know some people (although they don't vocalize it) would say that I can't possibly be a Christian, because I tend to vote for democrats. I'm a social worker -- obviously social welfare policy is going to concern me. And there are a whole lot of things that republicans do that I don't consider to be at all representative of Christian values. Neither party is. That's why I go with what's important to me and leave my ideas of what is "Christian" out of it. I don't really care what people think of me for it. I'm sure 95% of my church is Republican. My husband is included in that 95%. I don't care. lol ( ... )

I don't believe in straight ticket voting, either. I remember the first election I voted in, one of the people I voted for was Feingold, and I had mentioned that to my dad, who is Republican. He was all, "What did you do that for?" because it was like I was canceling out any votes I'd made for Republicans.

That's kind of cool that your grandpa went, though! So far I don't know of anyone personally who went. All the teachers in my district, for example, went to work today.
