It looks as though European reporteres don't know how to wait for a complete answer before they begin to ask other questions. It's easy to take that type of interview style and get whatever kind of response you want by just interrupting often enough and taking the segments out of context. It would help if they would wait for an answer, whether it's the answer they were hoping for or not, just to see what the result would be.
No matter, I'm sure the Bush administration could dodge the question. They've had lots of practice. I don't think I've heard any of them give a straight answer to anything, whether to the American press or to anyone else. :)
this is what i wrote to heath, who thinks the same as you:
i know there's different tactics interviewers can use, but i honestly just see a interviewer who starts out asking her questions and is initially trying to wait for the answer while he goes on rambling sidetracks without really saying anything. halfway into the interview, she begin to realize he is not adressing her question, she then tries to cut him off to ask the question again but to no avail. i also didnt really see her as a particular aggressive interviewer, not with european standards anyhow. by the end of it, she looked mostly resigned...
eh, you're becoming an activist! :o) in france, noone is talking about that interview...
nevertheless, i'm afraid bush will be reelected. and the world will be a mess... but in another way, as we can't beat the usa (they are too strong), we can only count on their mistakes. the invasion of iraq was a big mistake. the all world hates the usa now. maybe 4 more years with bush and the usa will collapse...
had it been a french journalist and not a irish one doing the interview, i think it might've interested the french some more?:)
i'm afraid he is going to be reelected again too even though i'm wishing with all my heart he wont be, all i can do is to share information i find with hopes that some will read it..
