I just started the Southern Reach trilogy, I have all three books and I'm slowing getting through them. Thankfully Annihilation is shorter than the rest of the trilogy so I'm hoping to get done with that soon. And I cannot wait to start reading The Expanse books.
One of the pro/cons with this series is how flawed all of the characters are. Sometimes, it makes them easier to connect with and at other times I'm annoyed.
I agree with you there, and I get that way with other media as well. It's a double-edged sword.
My biggest gripe with these last two trades was the introduction of characters that feel they should have been brought into the story much sooner. - Ooof, I hate it when that happens :/
Unrelated other than "books": I know you work in a library and was wondering if you knew of any YA books with black boys or girls as the main character? My cousin teaches in a majority black school and they are trying to start a reading program (that the teachers temporarily have to provide all the books for) and she's trying to find books with characters they will be more likely to relate to/characters that will make them want to read the book.
Good news is that a lot of books spring to mind...bad news is that I feel like the majority of them have to do with bad things happening to the kids - The Hate U Give, Ghost Boys, Dear Martin, Long Way Down - these are all really good books but focus a lot of shootings
