Navy Brat advantage - family was always scattered so we were always traveling and then I got the travel bug myself and had no problem driving 2 hours to see concerts etc.
And then I dated a guy in NJ - because why would anyone go to New Jersey otherwise? :P
And now I'm married to a guy with family in Wisconsin.
I need friends in square states so I can go visit and cross them off!
I assume that by visiting states it's actually spending quality time in that particular state instead of just passing through. Since although we've traveled across the country to visit relatives, I actually haven't been to many states, sadly.
Aside from California where I live, I've only been to Nevada, Florida, Missouri, Hawaii, Illinois and Georgia.
I want to visit other states (and anywhere else in the world) and do much sightseeing and the like, but traveling is expensive.
At first I was like "oh I shouldn't count the states we drive through for Wisconsin", but then I realized I had actually stopped in all of them for at least a day - we went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, our friends live outside Chicago and we visited them last year, I went to a Star Wars Convention in Indiana and one of my Livejournal friends lives in WVA and I picked her up on the way to Dragon*Con one year. Crazy.
Yeah, it REALLY helps to have friends/family in other states LOL. My Mom's family is in New England so it was easy to go visit them and then drive out to other places for day trips. Pretty much everywhere I have marked there was some kind of friend or family to put is up - just a handful were actual hotels. Because omg hotels are SO EXPENSIVE!
