I've seen the ITV adaptation (1 episode in 2010, 3 in 2012) and I enjoyed it, so I'll check this one out too.

I've always meant to get my hands on that! I downloaded the BBC radio adaptation at one point and never did get around to listening LOL. Bad fangirl :(

Yeah, quite a crazy trailer! I remember absolutely nothing about the book, except for the couch that was eternally stuck in the apartment stairwell...I guess I will have to reread it before October! Luckily, Douglas Adams is always a quick read!

I am a huge fan of the books, but it is a bit hard to transport it to the TV screen. Did you see the BBC tv movie they made a few years ago?

Plus, tv is nothing but quirky detectives these days.

Yes, it will be a hard transition, mostly because so much of the humor in the book comes from Adams' observational asides and not what Dirk says.

But not as many quirky AND totally incompetent detectives! Well, I guess Dirk isn't incompetent but he doesn't really operate the same way as your normal procedural (at least, he shouldn't).

I used to have the second book memorized because I spent an entire summer listening to the library copy on cassette over and over and over....

A great way to compare this is to look at the HGTTG books, compare them to the BBC mini series which had so much of it line for line and compare THAT to the movie from the 2000's, which was adapted for American movie sensibilities.

Also similar is Discworld books, which are hugely reliant on puns and wit and asides and digressions and compare them to the several TV movies of them that were made for the BBC.

Ugh, yeah I blocked out the 2000s movie...okay, just crush my hopes!
