I got to write another blog for work! And it's about my love of Star Wars and reading! And I even managed to work in a small rant about why parents should let their kids read what they want!
It's always a blast! We've done Star Wars programs for ages but it's really cool to have an official event where all the publishers send us freebies. :)
Gonna check it out now. Parents who don't let their kids read everything are ruining their children. The whole point of reading good/bad/controversial books is so people's minds can grow. Fuck censorship.
I think the hardest part of my job is dealing with parents who won't let their kids read what they want to read (and then complain about how their child doesn't like reading...and somehow don't see the connection).
they have decided in their infinite wisdom that the book is: "inappropriate" "too easy" "too hard" "you won't like it" "not a challenge" "not a classic" "based on [insert tv show/video game/movie] so it's not any good"
blah blah blah. Honestly, it takes a lot to not roll your eyes at some of these parents. I tend to confuse them by being very excited about books that they have deemed unworthy. My favorite thing is to get overly excited about Minecraft and talking about how great a game it is for kids and then using that to find a book for their child to read. They always think I will condemn video games BWHAHAH JOKES ON YOU !!!
