All the big name Melbourne graffiti guys are serving prison sentences after the big crack down around the commonwealth games. The scene probably took a pretty big hit from that. I'd actually be surprised to see it recovering so soon.
Well not so much "all the big names" as arguably the two best known names, at least to the layman, they being Stanley and Bonez from the 70k Crew. You can't walk around Melbourne without seeing their tags up somwhere. Hell one of them is apparently visible on Google Earth. I didn't hear what the actual sentence handed down to them was but given the number of "Free 70k" tags that haved cropped up since earlier this year, it would seem that they did in fact wind up behind bars.
Given how well known these guys were I'd say its not surprising that things were quiet for a while.
Yep no one of them got done, I believe it was Stan70k, I *think* Bonez is in Europe, fleeing.
Yeah but I dunno, those guys are fucking thugs. They just hurt shit, they're not very creative. They're both over 30 years old (hence the crew name 70k... born in the 70s) and neither canm actually do a decent piece.
But yeah it was a bit of a blow to the damage/graffiti scene, I'll give you that.
I wish they got Vosko instead. He's MORE thug and more beef than both Stan and Bonez put together.
