John found the office in a sub-basement, at the end of a long, poorly lit corridor. The door was closed, and fortified from floor to frame with a series of locks and bolts. A handwritten sign cellotaped to the wood said: KNOCK OR DIE. John stared at the blood-red smiley face drawn beneath.
After a moment’s hesitation, he knocked. A woman’s voice called for him to come in, and he opened the door.
“It’s doing that thing again,” a blonde woman said around the toothbrush in her mouth, her eyes on the computer in front of her. “That thing with the blue screen and the not working.
