Dr. Who, "The Fires of Pompeii": very old school, I liked it! I love that Donna is so snarky and speaks and thinks for herself, very much what I love about Martha, except they left out that annoying crush business ( Read more... )

I thought that having the seers be right was also interesting, even though that is a common device in fantasy. I also liked that they had to pay a price for their "talent."

Shades of huffing hallucinogens though.

And the whole turned to stone/smothered with ash analogy, so they were like the plaster casts from Pompeii.

Apparently, Caecilius and Metella and their family are straight out of the Cambridge Latin grammar.

(I didn't catch that one-- my Latin course used Wheelock-- but it makes me very happy nonetheless.)

Well, Caecilius, Metella and Quintus are. The daughter was invented, and the real Caecilius was a bit less good-looking.

When I saw those fire monsters, I giggled hysterically and waited for them to yell "I AM MEGATROOOOOOOOOOOOON!!"
