I'm fairly certain that most of the people on my FList here know about what happened in the Senate yesterday. When the Defense Authorization Bill was unable to be moved out of the Debate phase and into voting

While I've not read the DREAM act in it's entirety, it has been ALL OVER the news here in AZ. Short version, though, is that it would allow people who were brought here illegally as children (like with their parents) to gain citizenship as long as they attend college and/or serve in the military.
Personally, I don't think they should be deported, since even though they are not legal, they were brought here as children and don't know any other place. I do, however, think they should go through the rest of the citizenship process as it stands now.
I do, however, think they should go through the rest of the citizenship process as it stands now. See there's one problem with that. By the time that most of those people who go through the normal process, won't be able to become legal citizens for a LONG time. Here, let me show you this graphic that explains it better than I ever could:
Share it Mei Mei, please do. All I would ask is that my name be added to it. My real name, not just my screen name. (Because, yes I did write all of this)
Also, the DREAM act is awesome, because it gives kids who are "technically illegal" (and I'm really starting to hate calling people "illegal") citizenship if they go to college or serve two years in the military. And honestly, given how jacked our immigration/citizenship processes are, I fail to see how anyone on the planet (other than Republicans, because there we all know it's just ZOMG TEH BROWNZ) could think that's a bad thing, ESPECIALLY now when recruitment and retention aren't doing so hot.
(Which of course ALSO puts the lie to "these amendments didn't have to do with the military!", which was the nonsense some of the Rethugs were trying to peddle yesterday (Scott Brown, I'm looking at you).)
A+ post. A+. Thank you. I'm right now re-working this, and forming it into a letter, a letter that I'm going to go ahead and print out 637 copies of, and I'm going to mail one copy to every member of the U.S. House of Representatives, one to ever member of the U.S. Senate, and one to the Office of the Vice President, and one to the Office of the President.
And, yeah I know broadly about the DREAM Act. I'm not solid for all the details, but I do support it.

I don't know what kind of numbers CO has for illegals, but AZ has ALOT, and the crime statistics are horrible. Do I think they're all bad? No.
