The church and state being separate...it's only separate when our government, judges, politicians, whoever, needs it to be separate.
Technically speaking, marriage is a religious ceremony. So as long as its between a sex born male and a sex born female all is good, but as soon as a homosexual couple wants to get married the government steps in and says well no because marriage is between these types of people. Since that probably made no sense - point - government should have no say in what defines a marriage. If two people go through a religious ceremony to be married, it should automatically be recognized without looking at the sex of the two. Otherwise marriages should be banned between all people!
