and did i mention how it's NOT going to be directed by Joel Shumacher (or written by Akiva Goldsman ('batman and robin')? ( and the batsuits are not going to have nipples? and batman is not going to carry a 'bat-credit card'?).
yeah. I was saddned that the reports that Darren Aronofsky was going to direct it turned out to be untrue....but if it had to be someone else, I'm glad it was Christopher Nolan. His directing Kung Fu is very strong. I, too, am very excited to see how many bad bat-movies this will make up for...
People might also remember Christian Bale from the Disney musical Newsies (here's Mary hoping there will be some corniness in the film... like in Newsies... or the real original batman)
newsies ranks highly among my favorite movies. unfortunately, while christian bale is adorable and talented and decent to good in all of his movies (even reign of fire!) he's got a sort of funny, child-like speech impediment thing going. it might be called a twang. or a lisp that is not a lisp. and that gives him quirky boyish street appeal, but doesn't seem to fit the suave, square-jawed, manly bruce wayne. but i agree, i love the BAM! POW! 's of the adam west batman. rehydrating the world leaders and whatnot.
Did someone say Batman?!renzo_pianoAugust 6 2004, 21:12:26 UTC
christian bale? I don't know - I always see him in my mind as the evil nazi boy who told his crippled ex-friend that he was next. This creates a problem because Batman is my all time favorite superhero (super? he doesn't even have super powers, and he's still on the justice league! and so tall-dark-handsome-brooding-and-tormented . . .) And while Bruce Wayne/Batman should have a dark, almost insane side I'm not sure nazi evil would be what i wanted.
But you know, we'll see how it turns out . . .
P.s. The original animated series (and it's accompanying movie, Mask of the Phantasm) is so much more wonderful and clever than any live action version I've ever seen I think I'll fine it hard to surpass (you should check it out if you haven't seen it)

yeah, i think i agree with just about all of that . .
batman is my favorite superhero as well (if it isn't obvious). further proof that he owns (despite his lack of super powers) - he beat the hell out of superman in that whole 'superman vs. batman' comic series thing (i have no idea how that fight got started, but i hope it had something to do with superman being a lame superhero, and batman calling him on it. . . ).
i don't know about christian bale, either. truth be told, i haven't actually seen him in anything - but he looks the part (from the photo on imdb), and -for the love of god - anyone is better than george clooney. and yeah - the cartoon is amazing, they almost should just hire the people who do the cartoon to make the live action film(s).

wow - I am so happy to find someone who loves him as much as I do . . . I tried to gush to anna and sam about the series last year and all they did was stare at me blankly . . . thanks, man.
