I'm reading two books at the moment. One is in the bathroom being read in five minute bursts, and the other is sort of for work - we're having an away day with the adult team and all trying to read a few books in different genres beforehand.

Both of these books concern Jane Austen. Neither of them is actually by Jane Austen ( Read more... )

I didn't realise the Jane Austen Book Club was a book, I saw the film and rather enjoyed it. I rented it because I liked the look of the cast and was surprised by it. Now I'm going to have to get the book. I haven't read all of Austen only Pride and Prejudice when I was 11 and have re-read it a couple of times since. I keep meaning to read the others too.

I really disliked P&P&Z - mostly I thought the zombies were too pasted on, they don't actually have a single effect on the plot - people still send letters exactly when they did before, worded almost identically etc. And I couldn't stop nit-picking it (like, if the Bennets can't cope with money/afford dowrys how did they afford to travel to China? And why is every single female character so unbelievably highly trained and the greatest warrior in x). Possibly I love the original too much.

In fact, the whole thing is making me wish I had a copy of P+P to hand so I could check exactly what it really says when P+P+Z starts talking about zombies...

Almost exactly the same things, only with the zombie bits taken out and occaisionally replaced with polite conversation.

I've never read any Jane Austen

If you want to, but can't read it Itunes has free audio books of Persuasion (which is lovely) and Northanger Abbey (which I am less keen on) from ITV.
