writing, or going to mechanicsburg by way of elyria

Fah! I do not like Ike. He blew all our power out, and today the schools are even closed because of all the damage and downed power lines and traffic signals.

Before the power went out, I'd started to write about writing and driving. Praise be for LJ's Restore From Draft. My bacon is saved.

A while back, mirtlemist wrote this post about how she writes: Read more... )

I see you figured it out, lol.

Cats in tube socks always look vaguely like uncircumsized something-or-others to me. ;)

So then it fits in nicely with dramatic climaxes.... :D

I learned to drive on an old Chevy with the three-on-the-tree (love that description.) All of my cars since have been stick shift, even the one I drive today, because of the better control I think it gives, especially in snow and ice. It has often amazed me how many people don't know how. Once you master it, you never want to go back. Ask any race car driver :)

Well I went back. Way back in the pizza days, I did some math and came up with some rough data, that I was clutching 2800 times per week just at work. No wonder my knee is owie on the subject. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a nice stick shift, but not for all the time.

I stand corrected :) But you know how, and could do it in a pinch, if need be. One never knows...

I didn't mean to correct you. I still think stick shifts are better, just less comfortable in my particular case. I didn't rule them out when I was car shopping. Especially since sometimes they're cheaper because fewer people can drive them!

Dramatic climax? I.....nevermind.

I, too, learned how to drive a standard the hard way. I worked as a detail guy at a car dealership. They sent me to return a customer's vehicle and bring back the parts truck. I get to the guy's house, we exchange keys, I get in the parts truck (an old Chevy Luv), and for just a few fleeting moments I thought to myself, "Why the f*** are there three pedals on the floor?"
By the time I got back to the dealership I knew how to drive a stick. If you can't find it, grind it.
