Yes, it do look like there's some pattern there.

You know, a few years back I made a masqurade gown, and only when I was done I realised that the detail were in pink on the portrait- not red as I had done. And somehow I was so sure that they were red, despite staring at that picture for hours.

The painting is in my
Paintings in the National Gallery of London
Book.

Parfis Bordone
Portrait of a young woman
1540-1545

And yes it looks like there is some design work on the sleeves.

Btw - Thanks to you I found another portrait I have been searching for. I knew it was in one of my art books, but I could not remember which one.

Bella has it on her site (in the 1530s section I think...) in the next section there are some ladder laced dresses of a similar shape though, of a cooler red in case that helps.

Wow. I totally don't see any flowers. I've been loooking at it until I'm cross-eyed, but I don't see anything except the shadows from the crumpled fabric.

But I've had quite a few instances where I see one thing and somebody else sees another with costume paintings. So who knows?

I double checked the painting/picture in my book and there is definately design work on the sleeves. I wish I had seen that when I saw the paiting at the museum.....next time we go to london I will need to make a list of painting to inspect closely. Mebbe this time I will go ahead and splurge on the DVD/CD rom of artwork at the LNG.
