Just wanted to remind you of LJs cool feature where you can set posts to publish on future dates, so if you were feeling particularly gung ho, you could schedule these types of events several months in advance and then you wouldn't have to free up time weekly or monthly
Honestly, that's how I post most of the challenges and stuff. I compile everything at least a couple of weeks ahead. And ... it will most likely be how I do these too. ;)
