I spent the weekend in Namibia, thinking about life and what I want to do with it. I found my way to the Skeleton Coast.

Only in Africa can you see a shipwreck in the middle of the desert. And you thought the movie Sahara was far-fetched.

You should read the book first, just on general principles. I prefer the movie. But the basic premise is these two "marine salvage experts" go on a hunt for a Civil War ironclad that had sailed up the Niger River and become lost in the sand.

It really is amazing because the Eduard Bohlen, the ship in my photo, wrecked in 1909 in the fog. Namibia was still German Southwest Africa, and obviously the shoreline was still there. It's now almost a half mile away.

I hear the movie and the book are actually nothing alike. Which is par for the course.

I'll try to add it to my list. I'm currently lost in a sea of urban fantasy for some reason.

To be fair, the book is like 600 pages long and has like two sub-plots. It's kind of convoluted, to be honest.

But, they're both part of the reason I wanted to go to Mali.
