The manager in Trader Joe's wondered if our recently extremely short summers are due to the earth's shift on its axis. Has it shifted I asked? He laughed and said he read it but has noticed in the last few years how few warm days we have here and how much later they come.  I agreed and then he said, who knows, maybe we'll end up on Mars. I laughed ( Read more... )

I wish we could trade a little weather. PHX would be happy to send ten degrees your way to warm the bay area, you could send us an ocean breeze.

After this year you'll be a seasoned BM veteran. You'll have all gear and with the experience of two BMs you'll have the preparation nailed.

You're a good confidence builder, thanks. I think it's easier if you have all the money you need for everything but I guess that would take the fun out of it and would lose a lot of DIY appeal, which the more I do the more I want to do.

I'd love 10 degrees!! 65 to 75 vs 55 to 65 would be dreamy. I have to imagine summer. And then you could survive with the 80's to 90's. Do you ever go into the mountains there? Specifically the San Francisco Peaks? I'd love to see them.

I suppose a few extra expendable dollars would be helpful but I think your DIY experience will be invaluable in the long run. You'll become the frugal BMer with many tricks to make the event on a low budget.

I'm sending you an email with a link. The town of Empire, NV is closed, kaput. I know it's very close to BM. The company that ran the gypsum mine shut down. They were the only employer. I wonder if this will affect BM.

Yes, I've been up to the SF Peaks area. It's a stark contrast to the valley we live in.

Thanks for the link. Man, that is SAD. I hope BM can contribute something. I'll keep you posted.

I would love to read a post of yours on those peaks. :-)

I've been reading about them and I know the Native Americans are fighting to preserve them and keep the snow/water funneled for a larger ski area.

I had no idea there were cold wooded mountains in AZ, my education skipped geography completely!
