How long would it be, he wondered, before she laid her arms down, defeated, letting death take her again.
He knew she remembered the words of the First Slayer. Death was her gift to the world, the tool she used to save it. It was her gift to Dawn, securing her dreams of the future. And the peace that followed was a gift to Buffy herself.
The battles were supposed to have ended. What better gift?
But death to Giles, in all its perplexing, empty versions, was anything but.
