Asian parents in the prev generation did these things because they assumed it would benefit their kids' future. Back then, ppl were promoted either due to hard work... or nepotism.

In this day & age, being a skilled, hard-working Asian will mean management will do everything they can to keep you in your position while hiring someone to manage your hard-working ass. Being a skilled worker doesn't equate to success.
