Oh that makes me want to cry. That's a very valuable cooking stove they have in there, for one thing. As someone who owns a 1930s stove, I can say that those knobs alone are worth about $50+ to restoration experts. Can't something be done????? *cries* And I totally agree with you about the wood. It should be salvaged! Aren't there any salvage companies up there that you could mention the house to? without admitting that you've been inside, of course...
p.s. I don't suppose you'll be going back...? Because I think those knobs might fit my Magic Chef. Seriously. Two of them are missing from the stove (I can send you a photo). I don't know how you would feel about that...whether it's stealing or not. In any case, thank you for sharing the great photos!!!
I don't like to return to these places. I figure that it's a miracle that I'm not busted the first time - don't want to push my luck. I never take anything from these places. I'm superstitious that way. It's bad enough that I'm trespassing on personal property....Believe me, my heart breaks sometimes when I see the valuables left to rot in these homes. Of course, at the time they were abandoned they were just everyday items with no value.
Yeah, that's exactly what drives me crazy--so little of the "everyday" survives from past eras, because it wasn't thought important enough to hang on to. It makes me want to scream. And to know that it's still extant but there's no one who can or is interested in saving it, that's even harder. What's wrong with the people who *own* these houses???

I am shooting a short film in black and white and I am really liking this place. I was wondering if you knew if there were any homes close by that by be the owners so I could ask permission.
