WOW these are excellent especially finding the cheques and that note about her favourite passtime.

It all looks so sad. Why would people just abandon places where they poured their heart and soul into for sometime first.

Thanks for sharing the pictures

What happens to places like that? Do they just remain empty and abandoned till someone claims them or do they belong to the authority or something?

Iknow. I don't understand it either. My home is everything to me - my sacred ground. I think subconsiously I worry what will happen to my home/things after I go (even though I know that all this will no longer matter to me) and that is probably why I am drawn to abandoned houses and the remnants of a life. This house, like many, was a farmhouse. Sometimes the owner would built a new house down the road and just leave the old one maybe thinking they would get around to renting it out or tearing it down. Or, the family simply left, the children not wanting to farm anymore. The number of small family farms are decreasing at an alarming rate in the US. People cannot make a living unless they own hundreds or thousands of acres. So the children go off to the city, the parents pass away, and even though the land may still be in the family or it is rented and worked, the house and all its memories is left to ruin. It is a step back in time. And usually into my favorite time...1940's-1960's. Some are real time capsules. A glimpse into a ( ... )

Although JJ commented on you batteries and everything over on abandoned, I wasn't going to broach the subject of spirits over there, I'm never sure how tangential some groups are ( ... )
