Bad
It was when Sakura was in the eight month of her pregnancy with Hajime that Naruto got his first solo mission in years.
The reason for this was simply that Sakura was no longer allowed missions, the rest of their team was already out on one and Tsunade was temporarily short on ninjas that could do this kind of mission.
It was supposed to be an easy mission, but Sasuke could never get over the thought that if he just had finished his own mission in time, Naruto wouldn’t have gone alone.

It was by fluke that Ino happened to be up when Naruto came home. It was in the middle of the night after all and she was just getting a glass of water when she heard the bathroom door close. She simply walked over there and knocked quietly.
Something scrambled to the floor, it sounded like a kunai.
“Don’t come in!”
The tone of Naruto’s voice made her furrow her eyebrows.
“Naruto. Did the mission go well? Is everything all right?”
“Don’t come in!” Naruto’s voice repeated. “I… I just…”
She then heard the water start running in the sink and frowned even more.
“Naruto, are you hurt? Should I get Saku…”
“No!” Naruto interrupted from the other side of the door, panic tinting his voice. “No! Not Sakura! She’s… I… Just go. I… I’ll be fine.” His voice trembled slightly when it continued so lowly that it obviously was meant for her not to hear it. “I… don’t want to hurt anyone.”
Ino’s blood went cold.
“Naruto.” She croaked out. “Naruto, the seal… is it…?”
“I… don’t think so.” Naruto’s voice was now barely a whisper.
Ino was about to open the door but Naruto obviously heard her movement.
“Don’t come in!” Now the panic was clearly there.
And Ino left.
Two and a half minutes later she had managed to get Sasuke to the door. He was very irritated, simply because she hadn’t found the time to tell him why he had to get out of bed in the first place, she had simply dragged him there.
“What’s wrong?” He asked gruffly.
At the sound of his voice they heard a panicked scramble from the bathroom when Naruto flew to the door and locked it. Sasuke’s eyes immediately narrowed at the suddenly offending barrier. He turned to Ino.
“Is Naruto in there?”
She simply nodded and he turned back to the door.
“Naruto. Open the door.”
“No! Go away!”
Sasuke’s eyes narrowed even more, if possible.
“What happened?”
“I just… It’s…”
Sakura happened to choose that moment to walk into the scene. With one hand resting on her rounded belly and the other still rubbing at the sleep in her eyes she walked straight up to Ino and Sasuke.
“What’s going on?”
Before either Ino or Sasuke got the chance to answer one was already coming from inside the bathroom.
“Go. Away. Now!”
The vicious snarl made all three of them actually flinch, Sakura the most and Sasuke the least. Sasuke gave the girls a look that made them back off slightly before he concentrated on the door.
“Naruto.” He said in a low voice. “I won’t let you hurt anyone. Now open the door, or you know I will.”
He noted absently that Sakura seemed to hold her breath while a silence stretched over what felt like a small eternity.
“Sasuke… I’m… It’s bad…” Naruto’s voice was pained, scared and so tired.
“Open the door.” Sasuke commanded softly.
Finally the door unlocked. Sasuke opened it slowly and - leaving Sakura and Ino behind - went into the bathroom while once again closing the door. His eyes immediately fixed on Naruto and took in his state in a heartbeat. The battered appearance of Naruto’s clothes - dirt, rips and blood, the slightly too long nails, the slightly too spiky hair, the too pronounced whiskers, the red eyes staring at him and an upper lip twitching in sync with the small spasms going through Naruto’s body.
Sasuke saw and understood. Naruto had a really hard time stopping himself from trying to rip Sasuke’s throat out right now. In response Sasuke’s eyes swirled red and black almost automatically, staring down the beast harshly. A deep growl escaped Naruto’s lips and his hands and lips twitched wantonly when Sasuke took a step forward.
In every move he did and didn’t make Naruto was fighting himself. No, that wasn’t right, he was fighting Kyuubi. With everything he had he fought the demon while Sasuke took another step towards him.
It took longer than he thought to fight down Kyuubi this time, but with them both working together to beat the fox back into its cage Naruto’s hair slowly softened, his claws went back to short nails, his whiskers thinned out and his eyes finally turned blue. A shudder went through his body and Sasuke caught him just before his knees hit the floor and he lowered them both gently to stand on their knees, resting against each other for a few heartbeats in silence.
Naruto looked up first, giving Sasuke a tired smile and ran his fingers through the bangs resting against Sasuke’s cheek. Sasuke answered with pressing a tender kiss on a dark blond eyebrow. They stared each other in the eyes for another couple of heartbeats until Sasuke’s eyes narrowed a little.
“If you ever close me out like that again I’ll fucking remove the door.”
Naruto simply laughed and got on his feet, mostly ignoring Sasuke’s glare. Then they went out to meet the rest of their anxious family before they all could go to bed.

Naruto never went on a solo mission again, no matter how easy it seemed. He wasn’t allowed and he didn’t want to.
