I do have to correct you on the gaming which seems to be a common misconception. I think in total we had three gaming panels out of over a hundred panels. The largest panel track for us is sci-fi/fantasy/horror media. There is a room with gaming but I hardly think that makes it a gaming con.
Sorry, I just feel the need to correct that when I hear it because I think it may keep some people away from us.
I think people got that impression because the first conchair and one of the founding members fireheart was running a game store at the time. Like I said I've heard other people say it, so in small ways I'm trying to fix that. :)
Several friends who didn't show up said that they didn't come partly due to cost, but also due to lack of interest in military f and sf. Conjecture in the past has been more socially experimental in the past, with gays and trannies at home, and socially experimental topics and media discussed. It was interesting seeing some of those folks crossing over with more of the LASFS mil-sf gang.
All i need is to be told by someone on the con-com they'll put me on 3+ items of programing (preferably not in a row) and that they have at least 350 warm bodies a year.
