And I like the premise a lot - I'm not sure I will like the world, but I've seen a number of steampunk stories that were all about jolly old boys having a grand old time. And there are times when those stories are great fun, but I like stories that explore consequences honestly.

If you haven't read any of Dave's work I suggest trying Slow Train To Arcturus and Dragons Ring as primers, not steampunk but good examples of style.
