"Safe and sound and driving Giles crazy, apparently," said Buffy, watching as the desert stretched out in front of them.
They'd encountered three zombies on the long, three-day way down here - one that'd actually took off at a run against the Impala and it had only been Dean's stellar driving skills that'd saved their ass 'cause this time? The zombie that crunched under his wheels didn't get up and Dean was still bitching about it a day and a half later.
"I'm looking forward to sitting on something that wasn't formerly a dead animal," Anya nodded, chewing on a strip of beef jerky they'd picked up in one of the previous towns."She says this as she chews on dead animal," Buffy murmured, thinking that it was pay past due them getting out of the car. Three days was enough to test the patience of anyone - spending three days with Anya and Dean in a car trying to outrun zombies was maybe pushing it a little

Dean watched as the girls went about hugging and greeting each other, and he caught glimpse of Bobby across the yard, tending to his old pickup. He motioned to the others--mainly Sam-- that he was gonna step away for a second, going off to talk to Bobby.
"Hey, Bobby," he greeted, beating on the side of the truck, causing Bobby to raise his head out from under the hood and reach for the rifle balanced inside the hood of the car.
Bobby shook his head at Dean. "Dammit, boy, you lookin' to get full of lead?" He laid down his rifle with a nother shake of his head, reaching over and giving Dean one of those hugs like Dad used to give after a long hunt. The kind of hug that said he was glad to see Dean in one piece. "Took your sweetass time getting here, huh?" Bobby lectured as he went back to his truck.
"In my defense, I had to run down a few zombies on the way. Kinda cuts into travel time." He looked around the farmland, at the farmhouse standing just beyond Bobby's shoulder. "You and Dad set this place up?"
"Manual labor?" Dawn shot a petulant look over at Buffy as she pulled herself from Sam's hug, "I've been researching since the ass-crack of dawn. Besides, my sister's the one with the super-powers, can't we just load her up?"
Buffy made a face at that, laughed, "Funny. Did that ever work with Mom?"
"Well, no but... Can't blame a girl for trying," she grinned, grabbing a couple of bags with food and rummaging through before picking them up to take inside.
It was then that Dean appeared and though Dawn knew it would never happen in a million lifetimes, given the fact that he was way, way older than her and Buffy would kill him, resurrect him, and kill him again?
She found herself grinning just that tiny bit wider. "Dean! And beef jerky," she pointed towards the bag with the opened bag of jerky on top, "Both totally essential tools in this time of... Apocalypse. Hi."
And though Anya was quite secure in the knowledge that Dean was going nowhere with Dawn ever? The opened pack of beef jerky was very much hers. "That's my tool

Dean rejoined the group as they started to unload bags from the trunk of the car. Dawn greeted him with a wide grin, calling him and beef jerky essential to defeating an apocalypse. "I think I'll take that as a compliment," he grinned, pinching Dawn's cheek. "You holding up, kid?" he asked Dawn as Anya interjected that both the beef jerky and him belonged to her.
Not that he's a tool or anything.
"I beg to disagree," Sam countered as he and Dean split up the aresenal load between the two of them.
"Funny," Dean countered, flipping off his brother before Sam tossed a duffel at him, which he caught against his chest. "At least Sam's maturity level will fit in just right around here then."
They finished unloading the car, closing the trunk up before starting towards the house. "So how cramped are we talking, Dawnie?" The place was much bigger than he had hoped, but it still seemed like a lot of people crammed into one place.
