She was still trying to wrap her head around the words Zombie Apocalypse when Dean got the call on his cellphone. Sat on the backseat, leaning against Sam with her legs curled beside her, Buffy was engrossed in a book - trying to find out how, exactly, you stopped a zombie apocalypse.

At first, all she heard was snippets. Dean asking where they should go -- the plan had been to go to Bobby's, something had changed. Nevada? Jo? She watched Dean as he talked, grit his teeth, tried to move on.

It was Anya who spoke first. Anya who, from her vantage point next to Dean, had heard a little of what was said from Bobby, frowned. "It just got a whole lot worse, didn't it?"

"Worse? Worse how?" Asked Buffy, "What's in Nevada?"

"Mostly? Lots of desert. And crap tables from which to make lots of money. But I'm guessing this isn't a social call." She bit her lip, looked at Dean who didn't even remotely look like he wanted to talk right now.

Sam sat forward in his seat, hands braced against the back of the front seat. He'd heard bits of the conversation, and between hearing Dean ask where they should go and if Jo was with Bobby, he was starting to fear the worse.

"Dean, what the hell is going on?"

Dean licked his lips, eyes traveling to the next highway marker that let them know the diner he had pondered before was only about twenty miles out now. "If only he was calling to discuss crap tables and brothels," he joked lightly. When no one laughed, he ran a hand through his hair. "We're not going to Bobby's."

"Why not?" he asked.

"Because the undead is there, too. Hell they're everywhere from the sounds of it, just slowly creeping in and wiping out towns left and right." He frowned at that thought. "There's a safe place, a bunker, in Nevada. We're meeting him and Ellen there, forming a gameplan."

Except there really wasn't a gameplan when it came to a zombie apocalypse.

They're everywhere from the sounds of it, just slowly creeping in and wiping out towns left and right.

Closing the book in her lap, Buffy sat upright, frowning. Any notions she had of this being okay had been obliterated by the notion of Bobby taking leave of the home he'd lived in for years.

"A gameplan?" Anya echoed, "Beyond lots of guns and a whole lot more ammo, I'm not sure there is a gameplan, unless we find out who's doing this. And kill them. A lot."

Buffy looked at Dean in his rearview, "Did Bobby say how big this place was? Giles is closer than we are right now with Dawn and the others. I need them safe too. And they can help," she added. Help how, she wasn't sure. Most of them were still walking-wounded from the fight with The First.

"So this is how the world ends, huh?" She murmured, glancing out of the window. It looked peaceful outside - nothing to suggest that this apocalypse was going to be the real, actual apocalypse that ended the entire world and the people that lived in it. It sure looked that way ( ... )

Anya echoed his gameplan fears. "We're on the right track," Dean said, though even he wasn't so sure they'd win this battle right now. "We just gotta figure out how to take out this Samhain guy."

"Dean, we can't just take out a god," Sam frowned from the backseat. He knew his brother could be a blind optimist at times, but this was getting ridiculous. "This isn't exactly a normal hunt."

"Yeah, got that message loud and clear last night when we were being chased by zombies, Sammy," Dean snapped back, finding himself easily agitated right now. He didn't like when the odds were against them like this. He looked up into the rearview, trying to catch Buffy's eye, but her gaze was focused out the window. "I'm not sure how big of a place it is, but we'll give Giles a heads up."

Sam placed a reassuring hand on Buffy's knee, giving it a squeeze. He wanted to believe that they would figure this out, but the thought of Bobby picking up and heading out of town did nothing to quiet his fears. "The world hasn't ended yet," he said to her with a ( ... )

Buffy sighed. She'd known it was coming in the hunting store - hell, even before that, before they'd been stocking up on ammo and trying not to think of this as the Be All and End All of the Apocalypses - she'd known it then. But guns... They made her antsy. And not just because she'd been shot by one either.

"Can't I just do the whole hand-to-hand combat thing?" She murmured, "I'm good at that. And I'm not likely to kill someone else with that in the process."

Anya glanced at her from the front seat, "Sure. And when hand-to-mouth combat happens between you and a zombie, I'm sure one of these two will be pleased to shoot you in the head."

Buffy glared at her. "Geez. Blunt, much?"

Anya smiled, "Thank you. But I am right. Besides, I don't see what your problem is. Is it really any different to shooting a crossbow or some other kind of weapon?""Well, yeah," Buffy nodded, "I haven't been killed by many other weapons. Just drowned. And, y'know, jumped off a big, unstable, made-by-crazy-people-tower. If it hadn't been for ( ... )

Dean shook his head a bit as he listened to Buffy complain about using firearms. Honestly, he wouldn't be caught dead without a piece on him. He felt naked without one. "You can use a crossbow if you want, but you better have some damn good aim considering these things are running nowadays."

Sam gave Buffy a reassuring glance. "It really isn't different from a crossbow. Just aim and fire." He shrugged a bit as he added, "No rifles though. The kickback would probably throw you off."

Dean nodded and smirked up at her in the mirror, and he was glad that even in the middle of an apocalypse, he could still find ways to annoy the crap out of Buffy. "And honestly? Not really feeling being taken out by you being clumsy."

"I give you full permission to use him as target practice," Sam said seriously.

"Check." Buffy nodded, "No rifles. Or kickouts." And her aim was damn good with a crossbow - better than any other girls she knew, at any rate, but still...

She knew she had to learn it. That wasn't the issue here. It was the actual holding-a-gun-in-her-hand and--

Not really feeling being taken out by you being clumsy.

"I am NOT clumsy," she said, suddenly incensed at the fact that--Oh. Dean was laughing. She glowered at him as Sam offered him up for target practice and nodded her head. "I don't know how you haven't. Pain in the ass..."

"What kind of gun will I get?" Anya asked, glancing at the still-smiling Dean. "I think I want one that does maximum damage. Really blows their heads off. Do we have one of those?"

I don't know how you haven't. Pain in the ass...

"He has," Dean replied with a casual hitch of his shoulder. "Twice."

Sam scoffed a bit at that. "Okay, that doesn't count. Both times I was either under the influence of some crazy mind-meld doctor or possessed by a demon."

"Technicalities," Dean smirked at him, enjoying getting under Sam's skin just as much as Buffy's. He glanced over at Anya as she very excitedly asked what sort of gunpower she was gonna get to use, and he smiled a bit wider at her enthusiasm.

Do we have one of those?

"Anya, sweetie," he said, reaching over and patting her thigh, "trust me, we got maximum damage covered."
