Pokémon Spotlight - [ VOLCARONA ]

Feb 26, 2012 20:48

Once Upon a Time, the flawless member known as everythingonit wrote informative "Pokemon Spotlights" that featured a particular Pokemon. Today, I'm happy to introduce the true HBIC / BAMF of all Bug and Fire types that ever existed...

 VOLCARONA

Volcarona, the SUN POKEMON.  This beautiful Bug/Fire Pokemon originated from the Unova region and has blessed us with its presence.

How has this mighty creature evaded us for four whole generations?!  Who knows... but let's learn more about it now!

VOLCADVANTAGE NUMERO UNO: Volcarona and Genesect are the only two Bug-type Pokemon that can learn Fly, even though it is not part Flying-type.  THAT'S RIGHT--while you are quickly hatching plenty of eggs thanks to Flame Body, you can also FLY around to your favorite Unova hotspots!  Volcarona is the perfect traveling companion!!

TAKE YOU WONDER BY WONDER
OVER, SIDEWAYS, AND UNDER
ON A MAGIC FIERY MOTH, A WHOLE NEW WORLDDDDD

VOLCADVANTAGE NUMBER TWO:  No other Pokemon has the exact same type combination as Larvesta and Volcarona.  You should feel PROUD to train such a unique creature, one so rare and glorious fitting enough for the Unova Champion Alder and wonderful trainers such as yourselves!

DON'T BE A DRAG, JUST BE A QUEEN
WHETHER YOU'RE BUGGY OR A FIRE MACHINE

VOLCADVANTAGE NOMBRE TROIS: Even though Volcarona cannot learn Attract, they are able to easily steal all of our hearts with minimal effort!  Just LOOK AT THEM!

SO CUTE, IT MAKES YOU WANT TO SLAP YOURSELF FOR NOT REALIZING SOONER

Let's move on to analyze the great movepool!
  • QUIVER DANCE - Raises Special Attack, Special Defense, AND Speed in one turn?!  THIS IS BETTER THAN THE OVERUSED DRAGON DANCE, bitches!
  • BUG BUZZ - Perfect for those annoying Psychic, Dark, and Grass fiends!
  • RAGE POWDER - Taking one for the team in Double and Triple Battles... omg RIP, drowning in my own tears rn because of the selflessness!! i cannot even
  • HURRICANE - WITH ALL THE FORCE OF A GREAT TYPHOON, not even crafty Airbenders can stop Volcarona from blowing your breath away!

  • FIERY DANCE - Because SIGNATURE MOVES are very qt, duh.  Not only is it powerful (and the battle animation is gorgeous), but there is also a 50% chance of raising Volcarona's Special Attack!  Combine this with Quiver Dance and you have one exceptional sweeper!  DANCE DANCE like it's the LAST LAST night of your LIFE, trainer!
  • SUNNY DAY / SOLARBEAM - Pretty cool TMs you can use to diversify your beautiful friend!  Get rid of those scary Water attacks and evaporate them with a non-charging Solarbeam!
  • REST (+ CHESTO BERRY) - Quiver Dance one or two times, take a hit, and REST the damage away!  If you equip a Chesto Berry, you are all set to retaliate~
  • HONORABLE MENTIONS - Fly, Psychic, Wild Charge, U-Turn, Heat Wave, Calm Mind, Whirlwind, Silver Wind, Substitute, and the list goes on!

THE PERFECT COMPANION TO azula, Y/Y?
(... IF YOU DIDN'T GET THAT, THEN SHAME ON YOU)

FOUR FABULOUS FACTS FOR FREE BITCHES

I. "Volcarona releases fiery scales from its six wings to create a sea of fire. It is said that its fires can replace the sun when it is dark with ash." Forget Dragons... this is the TRUE FIREBENDING MASTER imho!

II. "When volcanic ash darkened the atmosphere, it is said that Volcarona's fire provided a replacement for the sun." COOL STORY, RIGHT BRO?

III. If you do not have the patience to hatch your Larvesta egg from Route 18 and train it, you may find a single Level 70 Wild Volcarona at the end of Relic Castle!  Don't miss out on the opportunity!!

IV. It is the last non-legendary Pokemon in the National Pokedex and one of very few Pokemon that learns a move at level 100!  Talk about being special!!

Origin (SHAMELESSLY STOLEN FROM BULBAPEDIA OFC)
"... Concept-wise, it may be based on a solar deity, a type of god said to be able to control various aspects of the sun such as sunrise, sunset, eclipses, position, etc. The head and antennae of Volcarona bear a resemblance to the headpiece of Hathor, which depicts the horns of the goddess cradling a disk representing the sun in between. Volcarona's appearance may also be loosely based on that of a seraph, a type of angel that is often associated with fire, as its name literally translates to "burning one". Like Volcarona, seraphim are often depicted with six red wings and no legs. Its color scheme is very similar to some incarnations of Mothra."

I'M BEAUTIFUL IN MY WAY
'CUZ ARCEUS MAKES NOOOO MISTAKES
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK, BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

Name origin (ALSO STOLEN JSYK)

"Volcarona is a combination of volcano and corona, referencing its Fire type and status as the Sun Pokemon. It could also come from Vulcan, the Roman god of fire. Ulgamoth is a combination of ウルカヌス Urukanusu, Vulcan, 蛾 ga, moth, and the English word moth."

I HAD AN ORGASM TO THIS FANART TBQH!
