FLASH #1

Feb 03, 2010 01:38

A hum begins to emanate from the very Island itself. It starts off low, a gentle throbbing, until it grows louder. The hum becomes so loud that all those on the Island double over in pain, holding their ears as they wonder what is happening. To some, this sound is all too familiar. To others, it's another odd happening on this strange Island.

Juliet is stacking some spare boxes in the closet of the darkened guest room, having finally cleaned out their over-full bookshelf, when there's a familiar sound that starts humming through the air. She barely has time to be surprised before she's doubled over in pain and yelling for James. Suddenly, everything goes white and Juliet loses consciousness, toppling into the closet as boxes cascade around her.

Juliet finally awakens, and with it comes a sudden flash of memories, of dark spaces and fear and pain... and her death. She comes to with a start, panicked, suddenly aware of the dark, of how she seems to be inside a small space again, covered in heavy things that remind her all too heavily of the moment of her death. Of all that pain.

Juliet lets out an anguished scream, struggling against the weight of the boxes, disoriented and frightened.

I think that would work. I'll see if Jack can cover my shifts.

Juliet pulls James tight to her, stroking his hair.

I love you, James.

At the mention of Jack, James involuntarily growls in the back of his throat. He had thought maybe he could eventually be friends with the guy, but with these new memories in his head, the resentment was just too fresh for him to even want to try.

Yeah, I think I'll hang behind while you do that.

Juliet pulls back a little, wanting to tell him to take it easy on Jack, that it wasn't worth it, but she can't bring herself to do it - especially considering the fact that she doesn't entirely believe that herself. Truth be told... she might be a bit mad at him too.

That's fine, just... don't do anything you'll regret, okay?

I haven't yet. Doubt I'll change my mind any time soon.

Juliet leans her head against his chest, sighing deeply, her hand resting on his knee as they sit there on the floor. She wipes at her eyes.

What the hell was that, do you think? That flash?

He sighs, running his hand over her back a few times before he answers.

Who knows, but with the last thing I remember...I'm just worried they might not be over.

Hmmm. Well, they are for me, I guess.

She speaks without thinking, cringing slightly, giving James an apologetic look.

Heh.

He raises his eyebrows, tilting his head to the side at her comment.

Lucky you.

Juliet raises her eyebrows and sighs. She rubs his arms.

If it happens again... at least... at least I'll be here for you. Always.

He smiles softly and leans in, kissing her.

I'm glad.

She kisses him back, trying to push back the memory of their last kiss before she died. It doesn't matter anymore. She's here now. It shouldn't matter.

I love you so much.
