I don't know anyone who doesn't like StarCraft II... It's a ridiculously popular game. Ever watch the tournaments? They happen ALL THE TIME.
And you're basically getting 3 full games, so it only makes sense to split it up. Releasing a trilogy through expansions is not the same as releasing 1/3 of a game 3 times. Them telling you that they have 2 expansions already planned out doesn't negate the validity of holding back on releasing them (or, actually, creating them), it is just them promising you more awesome gameplay now vs surprising you later.
I was only basing that comment on my own experiences with my friends that were a part of the competitive scene and jumped ship for some other nonsense after being disappointed with SC2. I was under the impression that SC2 events are less popular than events for the original SC were? Maybe I just have a perspective bias and in reality SC2 is a generally well-loved game. I'd prefer that, haha.
And I think my dissatisfaction is just that Terrans are my least favorite faction to play as and there's no Zerg or Prodoss scenarios yet. I don't really care about the price or anything I'll buy them all without complaint, I just would have preferred to have had 3 smaller campaigns that offered gameplay from the other factions in the base game.
Ah! Well, yes, the SC2 events are way bigger than SC - the prize pools are much larger, and MLG wasn't popular in the west until SC2. You should totally check it out ^_^ In a recent tournament I watched, first place was $15k, and while South Koreans still dominate, other countries have people who can at least compete to higher places than with SC.
And I definitely see where you're coming from when it comes to the base campaign. Thanks for clarifying. :D
