Local Urban Legend and Ghost Tripping

May 05, 2010 15:24

Most areas have a place that is rumoured to be haunted. These spots often become hang-out spots for local teenagers, who are responsible for much of the spreading of the tales associated with these spots. I'm sure that most of you knew of a "cry-baby bridge" or an area with ghost lights in your area when you were growing up ( Read more... )

It's Professor Lupin!

My town only has the old high school turned apartments. Girl crushed behind the bleachers. I wouldn't be able to enter before and now it's been closed due to bad work or something. Some people have experienced something. I told someone and they said if you say you're going down to the basement, it locks when no one locks it.

I don't know if anyone investigated.

She witnessed a dim light walking the railroad track right before midnight, and stopping right above the bridge at midnight, then disappearing at the same time a bright flash was seen underneath the bridge. She heard the deafening sounds of horrific screams coming from underneath the bridge that lasted only seconds. She watched in horror as the bodies were hung from the edge of the bridge, same style as the corpses a year earlier. Horrified she ran home, she didn't tell everything she saw, just spattered words here and there that some of the folk put together to come up with her story. No one understood it, or even believed her. They charged her with the murders, and locked her up in the Asylum of Lorton ( ... )

All right, so when we were in high school my cousin and I decided that we would go see if there was any truth to the story. We ended up driving out there at like 1 am and we just hung out near the bridge. Nothing particularly scary happened for like an hour. We ended up hearing a bunch of twigs snapping, like someone was walking towards us (keep in mind we had turned the car off at that point and were pretty much just sitting in the woods XD) and then it sounded like it was running towards us so we got in the car as fast as we could and got the hell out of there. Ngl, it was probably just an animal or something, but we were 16 at the time and shitting our pants at the thought of something coming after us.

Oh and the whole story isn't true. There was never an asylum out there.

I work for a mental health group in AL and we regularly get patients from Bryce's Hospital as part of our rehab program. None of the former patients like to talk about their stay there. (I work at a group home that gets people ready to live on their own again).

Where I live in Ohio, there's a covered bridge back in the woods on some backroads. The story is you drive up to the entrance of the bridge, flash your lights, and turn the car off. You'll see lights in your review mirror like someone is driving up behind you at high speed, and when you try to start the car, it wont start! Right as the lights get up on you, they disappear and you will be able to start your car again.

I'm a huge baby. The idea of not being able to start your car terrifies me, so I haven't tried this (though the bridge is only a 10 minute drive from here).

I'm from NW Ohio and we've got a story like that, except it's not a covered bridge and the lights come up from the front. Supposed to be a motorcyclist who was killed in an accident there.

I think the bridge is meant to be in Western Ottawa county near Elmore or Oak Harbor? It's in the Haunted Ohio books. I've never heard of Gretchen's Locke though!

I live in Philadelphia, there are lots of places that are considered haunted... One of the most famous ones, is Eastern State Penn which is an abandoned prison (http://www.easternstate.org/)

Here are some more:Byberry was one I would of loved to check out, but it has since been burned down. It used to be a mental hospital, then it was abandoned for years. I'm sure you can find interesting pictures of the creepy place on flickr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_State_Hospital_at_Byberry) I knew friends who used to hang there during the day & they told me some creepy stories ( ... )
