Creepy (not so) Short Story: The Oubliette

Mar 31, 2010 22:17

My friend used to write these very creepy short stories, he does surrealist paintings now-a-days. I loved reading these stories and found they really stuck with me for long time. Something in one of the comments here reminded me of this one in particular so I asked if I could share and he agreed so here it is:

:D Wales is a wonderful place. I've never actually been to Cardiff, but my uncle lives in Carmarthen and I've been there, it's really beautiful all along the coast :)

Yeah it's lovely in the sun. Not quite enough of it for my liking though!

I like Carmathen :)

Every time I hear about this the first thing that comes to my mind is the X-Files episode called 'Oubliette'... not that it has anything to do with it.

Ooh, what happens in that episode? Anything similar to this story? The thought of being in a room designed to remove any chance of the person getting out is truly terrifying to me :|

Here's the summary from Wikipedia:

When a young girl is kidnapped from her home, a fast food worker miles away collapses on the job, apparently experiencing exactly what the child is feeling. When Mulder learns that the woman was kidnapped and held hostage for years as a child, he begins to believe that she may be the key to help find the missing girl.

Haha! Yes, that film is brilliant. The oubliette is very glittery and sparkly though, not very scary :D

I never thought of it in linguistic terms before but it is a very pretty word, I love double lettered words.
